THE VANISHING GLASS -
IMPROMPTU VERSION
EFFECT: While
seated at a table, the magician covers an empty glass with his pocket handkerchief. He
raises the covered glass from the table and then throws the handkerchief in the air . . .
the glass has vanished. The magician reaches under the table, directly below the spot
where the handkerchief landed, and reproduces the glass. The glass has apparently
penetrated the table!
| METHOD:
|
| 1. The presentation of
this effect is exactly the same as in Steps 1 to 4 of the VANISHING GLASS except, instead
of dropping the glass into the well on your table, you merely move the handkerchief back
past the edge of the table and drop the glass into your lap! |
|
2. This can be done quite effectively in the following manner. Cover the glass
with the handkerchief, being sure that the disc is properly positioned over the mouth of
the glass. Pick the glass and the handkerchief up in your right hand as shown. |
 |
3. Now, as you hold the glass and handkerchief with your right hand, hold your left hand up, palm towards the spectators. Say,
"As you can see, there is nothing in my left hand." |
 |
4. As you show your left hand, move the handkerchief and the glass back over
the edge of the table so that the edge of the handkerchief is still touching the top of
the table. As you display your empty left hand, DROP THE GLASS INTO YOUR LAP. |
 |
5. Holding the "secret" disc by the edges in your right hand, move the
now "empty" handkerchief (as if it still covered the glass) back over the table. |
|
6. Say, "And. there is nothing under the handkerchief!" As you
say this, at he same time, throw the handkerchief up into the air. Catch it as it
comes down and show the handkerchief on both sides. Then drop it onto the table in front
of you. |
 |
| 7. Show both hands empty
and reach under the table. As you do, say, "The reason that you don't see the glass
any more is because it has gone right through the table . . like this." As
your hands go under the table, with your right hand pick up the glass from your lap and
carry it under the table to a spot directly beneath the crumpled handkerchief. With
a "pulling motion" apparently "extract" the glass from the table.
Bring the glass out and set it on the table and put the handkerchief back in your pocket. |
